The event was organized by the North Dakota National Guard. Governor John Hoeven , Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota National Guard Adjutant General, and Michael Letney, Founder of "Sacrifice for Freedom" spoke at the event, then presented families with the Sacrifice for Freedom Memorial. Michael Letney, President and Founder of Sacrifice for Freedom, a 501 (c) (3) organization headquartered in Tulsa, OK, shared his vision of the purpose of the Memorial sculpture and how it brings healing and unity to the Families and America through his original design entitled Sacrifice for Freedom(r). Letney states, " We have built a memorial that can go into the living room of the family of every fallen soldier so that we, as American Civilians, can show them that we appreciate the sacrifice that they have made for us and for our country. This artistic sculpture pays tribute to the heroes of the United States Armed Forces without regard to 'political aisle.' This is not a political statement, but a "moral responsibility". "We Civilians need to show that we appreciate the freedoms that we enjoy and Sacrifice for Freedom has created a tangible way to do that." Letney says, " We can agree that most Americans support our troops, although they do not know how. The Sacrifice for Freedom Memorial and Challenge Coins are ways to physically 'Mark the Moment' in the lives of these families. A time they will remember that Americans showed their appreciation for the sacrifices paid by their loved ones." Letney is passionate to find sponsors, locally and nationally, that will provide the necessary funds to memorialize every fallen American soldier. Each participating sponsor will provide a soldiers' family with a framed 3-dimensional sculpture to honor their loved one. Additionally, Sacrifice for Freedom(r) supports both the Freedom Alliance and TAPS.org Sacrifice for Freedom(r) is a tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, who have dedicated their lives and sacrificed themselves so we may live and celebrate our independence.
